People with low back pain who can be treated with physical manipulation are more likely to get relief from chiropractic than conventional out patient physiotherapy.
That's the conclusion of a two year study in two Harrow hospitals of 74l patients with chronic and, in many cases, severe back pain.Using the Owestry back pain questionnaire, which measures such areas as intensity of pain and difficulty with lifting or walking, the chiropractic patients consistently scored higher on improvements (about 7 per cent better at the end of two years) than the physiotherapy patients.
"Introducing chiropractic into NHS practice should be considered," concluded the report.
